The pandemic changed life for everyone, but I like to obnoxiously stand out. I’m extreme and basically burnt my life to the ground and built a very different existence. I quit drinking in April of 2020, took up running, lost seven stone and was one of the founders of Reclaim These Streets. I’m a pretty polarising personality and have lived on twitter for the past fifteen years. But in the last year, I’ve started writing longer form pieces and been published a lot more extensively. I’m going to share those longer takes on activism, books, life (and dating) without booze and my dog.

When I submitted a brash book proposal last year I was told it needed to be just about quitting booze, or the diet, or activism; but not all three. But I am all three and more.

Join the crew

I am unapologetically not everyone’s cup of tea; but if I am yours, please subscribe. Because although this last year has been the making of me; fighting for women’s safety doesn’t pay anything. I have learned more and worked harder than any other time in my life; but now I am trying to figure out how to make this purpose driven me still be able to afford McNulty’s dog food.

The thing I get asked the most is how to actually get involved. How to get your hands dirty and feel like you are contributing to the world and your community… so I will actively be trying to find opportunities—- not just to protest, but to help women. To make our world safer. To be active citizens and witness those mini revolutions. To be a contributor. This is a lofty goal, but hopefully people will share more and more ways that you can take part and we will all wake up a little more proud and secure.

And talk to me…

I want to hear about what you are doing, reading, what pisses you off and what inspires you. I’ve been given an incredible platform to communicate with lots of people; but my world view is just that. A white, 43 year old, Philadelphian that has lived in London and worked in the media and events for 20 years. I am mouthy, but not always on the right side of everything. And I want to have the discussions. I want to evolve and learn.

Good example from last month, I gave an interview about a shitty Samsung ad of a woman running at 2 am with HEADPHONES IN and flirting with a man coming up behind her on a bike. I called it tone deaf. I was then emailed by a hearing impaired person who explained that associating deaf with ignorance was problematic. And I won’t use the phrase again. I’m not promising to always change my behaviour; but I am up for the debate. As long as you don’t talk shit about my dog. That is not up for discussion.
