Every week I plan on sharing events or protests or ways that people can actually physically get involved. I would love if this became a place where people could share how they are being active participants in their communities, however you define community.
The first one is very close to home. On Tuesday, June 7th, I will be joining the #marchonthemet https://www.womensequality.org.uk/march_on_met
Mina Smallman has been an incredible inspiration after her daughters Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman were killed two years ago and then further victimised by Met Police officers sharing pictures of her girls.
I very much recommend that you watch Two Daughters on BBC Iplayer
On June 7th last year we held a vigil at Fryent Country Park and this year I will join the March on the Met. The final mile leaves Trafalgar Sq at 6pm, the rally begins at 7pm.
Remembering Bibaa and Nicole:
Mina stated in the ‘Two Daughters’ documentary that she wants people to remember Nicole and Bibaa for how they lived, rather than how they died. Although this is a challenge to do within the context of the March, we feel it is important to honour who Bibaa and Nicole were and how they lived their lives, and not solely focus on their deaths.
Bibaa was a social worker who took great care and pride in supporting families. She was a mother, about to become a grandmother. Nicole was creative, a talented photographer and singer who loved animals.
Mina has publicly forgiven the man who murdered them but has stated the two officers are beyond forgiveness.
