This weekend, one of my favourite events of the year takes place, Soho Food Feast. It is the best food from all of the independent restaurants in Soho. It was set up by Margot Henderson and the Soho community to support the Soho Parish Primary School. The kids get up and sing with the band and it is as awful and wonderful as a musical cacophony as you can imagine.
I’ve been going for years and years, it’s like a cheaper, charitable Taste (which happens to be on the same weekend this year). Dogs are welcome (unlike Taste). Kids are obviously welcome and it is an amazing place to spend Father’s Day too. And you won’t spend £200.
If anything, the pandemic has made me need to get my hands dirty and actually meet the people and community around me. I’m probably the only person that has ever volunteered to help with Soho Food Feast that has no children at the school— but it’s been a meaningful special event for me over the years; and if I can help them shout about it then why not.
Also— one of my favourite moments ever happened there. My friend’s very very naughty dog peed on a guy and his friend was (rightfully) pissed off about it– my friend was hugely apologetic and wanted the ground to swallow her up whilst I was in hysterics. About an hour later, a woman came up to us and gave us a big hug and a bottle of prosecco as it was the best thing she had ever witnessed, the peed on man being her big brother. I can’t promise a repeat of that, but I can promise a wonderful day where all proceeds go to a school that hasn’t been able to hold the event for the last two years.
I promise you will eat well, make friends if you are so inclined, and have a wonderful time benefiting the community. Do come along.
When looking for pictures for this post, all of them are just people petting or feeding McNulty. Going all of the way back to 2014…
